Prayer To the Holy Spirit By Cardinal Mercier
O Holy Spirit, Beloved of my soul, I adore You. Enlighten me, Guide me, strengthen me, console me. Tell me what I should Do; give me Your orders.
I Promise to submit myself to all that You desire of me and to accept all that You Permit to happen to me. Let me only know Your will.

This is a Photo Journal that aims to help reflect on the signs of the times through the lens of God’s Providence to remain hopeful to the Confidence in God, the Shelter of the Cross, and the mantle of our Lady.

Umbra Dei Press #009 Newsletter reflection :
Religion clean and undefiled before God and the Father, is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their tribulation: and to keep one’s self unspotted from this world
[James 1:27]
On May 3, 2023 the Society of St. Pius X consecrated the new Immaculata church on the grounds of St. Mary’s in Kansas. I found no coincidence that now the largest Church the Society consecrated is called the Immaculata. Providence seemed to have gifted us a beacon of Hope, the port of hope like what Port-u-gal would mean, the Society’s largest church representing a pure and unstained faith by naming it after the Immaculate Conception. The faith of our Lady was untainted by sin, by the world, what grace to see a group of religious people and priests who defeat the errors of Russia, Modernism, and Communism by being at our Lady’s, the Immaculate Conception, service who is Pure herself! There is no doubt in my mind Providence’s hand allowed this to be a symbol for our times of the purity of our Lady, which crushes all heresy, being the Church now raised up by a community of faithful priests and laity. Our Lady gave us a beacon of Light to combat the tainted world of evil doctrine and lack of true paternity and maternity, which can be seen by the corrupted and weak hearted bishops, and men to apostasy, to show us the way against the doubts, for the Lord tells us by their fruits you will know them.
Wherefore by their fruits you shall know them
[Matthew 7:20]
The Lord shows us where to rest under His wings (Psalm 90) and see how in this life we must see the path He has laid out for us by the examples of the Saints especially His Mother Mary, for she walked by such pure faith with St. Joseph who kept Christ and Mary so near to do the will of God.
Much of the fruit of the retreats I went to at the Society’s retreat houses spoke about something new and profound for me. Yet, it should have not been, as it was something I had often heard that Christ is God and Man. I could not grasp the thought of our humanity and His being something to reflect on as I grew really trying to purge myself of all that reminded me of my sinful humanity by the self pity from my past life. I battled much with disconnect and not understanding truly how we are an incarnate beings, body and soul and how both are means of our salvation. Thanks to the priests at our Lady of Sorrows retreat house I began to dive more into this mystery trying to seek a path showing how our ancestors lived without all the outside work but with the interior and foundation of home life and working out one’s salvation. I learned how even in the traditional Middle Ages people worked less during the year than we see now. Communist mentality seemed to have distorted what true Catholic life is, thus the procession from our Lady of the Angels to St. Gabriel Mission provided a glimpse at the witness of something outside of the normal secular society. As our Lady marched down the streets of Arcadia, people would come out of their homes and see what was going on, or make the sign of the Cross or maybe even just stop for a moment to think of the Heavenly life of our Lady. To reflect on her being told by St. Gabriel that she would be the Mother of God and receive the Lord into her body and soul, which gives us hope by a life of Grace to live in that confidence if we are faithful to be called to such glory especially in the reception of Holy Communion. (continued below)
Penance, Penance, Penance…
When Sr. Lucia asked our Lady what Penance she was asking for our times,
our Lady answered the Penance was to fulfill our duty of state.

I was always surprised that there were less “active” groups before and yet the Church life grew, thus it brings me to the words of our Lady at Fatima of the Penance pleasing to God is the fulfillment of one’s state in life. One’s own conversion and salvation being the key factor and simple humanity. Our Lady and Lord lived a life of simple humanity which showed us a holiness that seems to be found in the daily hidden life that the world does not understand, as such, the Cross not being understood. I was always taught that a successful career and having a lot of money is what establishes your value on your journey of being who you want to be, which seems to be rooted in the masonic ideology of liberty that aims to make self its own authority, rather than Who truly made us to be the person we are meant to be: God. We should be asking ourselves who did God make us to become, but that pleasing odor of sweetness to the Father that gave us life.
This is the pilgrimage of life I found, seeking by example first from our Lady, and then the Saints, how they trusted God’s authority to become who He has made them to be. This is where my humanity drives me to reflect and focus on our goal to head to the kingdom of God. We are seeing the buildings of two cities, as the masonic world is drawing souls down like Satan, to not serve Christ as King, but men being drawn down to think of merely things of men. While on the other side is battling to build up men to see their humanity in the care of their souls with eyes looking up towards Heaven. +
Church Teaching :
George Leo Haydock
AD 1849 (James 1:27)
Religion pure and unspotted St. James may use the word pure, as a proper admonition to the Jews, who were generally mostly solicitous to avoid legal uncleanness, such as were incurred by eating meats forbidden in their law as unclean, by touching a dead body He therefore tells them that the Christian religion is known by acts of charity, by visiting and assisting widows, the fatherless, and such as are under afflictions, and in general by keeping our consciences interiorly clean, unspotted, and undefiled from this world, from the corrupt maxims and sinful practices so common in this wicked world. Chapter 3 – The Battle
(Le Shade Photo Journal #009)
My heart is ready, O God, my heart is ready: I will sing, and will give praise, with my glory
[Psalms 107:2]
I want to love to the end. All the years I lacked to choose to love Him and all He placed around me. My selfishness blinded me to act to pure love, instead I sought self, not growth, but fear. Oh how I searched for rest in God like St. Joseph, trusting in His word or like St. John who believed in His charity, charity towards me and truly resting in His heart.
“I will do my part Oh Lord and You will finish the work and bless it.”, Anonymous.
Often I left no room for God to work in me, even now it is a challenge in this socialist environment that has influenced me in such a liberal way and a mentality as of Lucifer, to have power, but not to work with God. How exhausting! Now it clicks more to think how the Church speaks about the Devil not resting, what torture that must be to never be able to rest and be helped by God.
In reading, Courage to be Afraid, by Fr. Marie-Dominique Molinié, O.P (translated by Fr. Alexander Wiseman), speaks about how the Devil’s lack of dependence on God is out of pride and lack of humility, which is a sin that hides behind our own understanding, in a way that the Devil is like the person that would say something like ” if I may permit myself” but very respectfully and politely. I often try to discern this to fight against it by that dependence on Divine Providence. When we think of our Lord, He promises the opposite, in that, He says come to Him and He will give us rest.
“Come to me, all you that labour, and are burdened, and I will refresh you
[Matthew 11:28].”
We know we can not do all the work alone for there are always things we cannot control, but when we are consoled with Grace I can see there are moments we allow Christ to abide in our souls and work with the Holy Trinity in allowing our lives to know Him: Trust-Faith-Confidence, so we can serve Him. We are not doing the work alone, but with Three in One. This is the Divine marriage of the soul. Much of my life I went around believing the lies that one can do it all, without seeing the Truth of all efforts are allowed by God. Thus, divine providence is in sharing in your job, your relationships, and your whole life in order of His will to be done.
I find myself often complaining when I know how often I deserved hell. The Lord allows me to be tempted by these memories of my past life of sin only for my heart to cry out to St. Joseph and our Lady to shelter me and give me the grace to see why I am being allowed this. The Holy ones often show me the lack of my gratitude for I was freed from a distasteful and disgusting life. Oh how now I just seek to love and share in this victory with a friend, yet I turn to the angels. Following God’s path helps me live that holy life, that in His Blood won for me, to not take His death in vain. To truly speak, the hardest thing is to forgive myself from such a blind life I used to live in seeking True Love.
To live one day at a time, firmly grounding ourselves on that which can only be found in Christ’s Word: His Divine Promises and Confidence. I often find myself checking my phone hoping I hear from someone of the past that has come to find what I have found: The Truth, which sets us free by the forgiveness of sins and a new life in His Resurrection. His Church is a haven allowing His life to grow more in our souls by the Sacraments, accepting His Grace, in our souls. For quite a while it seemed the World robbed me and made me like one of its own. It did not do it alone for from my innocence I gave in to compromise, knowing quite well how often I dreamt of more.
I often feel unhappy and think well I must be failing God, and waiting for something to be wrong with me, in hopes to explain the unhappiness or burdensome feelings. I should be resting my head on His heart listening to His beat and not just my thoughts, and my heartbeats. The constant battling of sadness and depression at times feels as though I am not trusting in God. As I reflect, the guilt of my past consumes my conscience, I wish I was a better man. I wanted my life to be a certain way, I lived my youth as in front of me, the innocence of an adventurous heart, no fear, however, the courage and protection of a loving Father held me in security. He protected me and helped me to go to Him with open arms. Then, I go back and think again I am failing God and not embracing the current journey He placed me on or if it’s just the devil in not being able to be honest with God and feeling guilty about it. Everyday can be a battle to find joy or happiness with my daily chores and crosses.
Now my doubts plague me by the work of the devils placing my past in front of me filled with previous wants, using my talents and desires that sold my innocence for the lesser things of the world, like Esau selling his birthright (Genesis 25: 29-34) for a bowl of stew. This is the battle which continues to remind me to fight the good fight:
“Fight the good fight of faith: lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art called, and hast confessed a good confession before many witnesses
[1 Timothy 6:12]”
Lord rescue me to see such a security in You with that pure heart. +God bless and Mary protect you always, in umbra Dei,

“This truth is clearly set forth by Pius X of saintly memory:
Whatever a Christian does even in the order of things of earth, he may not overlook the supernatural; indeed he must, according to the teaching of Christian wisdom, direct all things towards the supreme good as to his last end; all his actions, besides, in so far as good or evil in the order of morality, that is, in keeping or not with natural and divine law, fall under the judgment and jurisdiction of the Church.[11]*

About Le Shade
LE SHADE, meaning the Shade or Shelter, took on its name by the hope of taking a life coming from darkness and now consecrating it under the mantle and virtues of our mother, the Virgin Mary, to God in becoming an instrument of her to draw others to encounter the Face of Her Son Jesus. (John 7:38) That standing firm in the True Faith by offering service and praise to God in the all we do in the supernatural grace needed that grows confidence in God (the little way).
LE SHADE magazine by Umbra Dei Press, a Traditional Roman Catholic Lay Apostolate, distribution is made possible by the kind donations by our supporters and benefactors. This would not be possible without the help of Divine Providence and God working through the faithful to reach souls. God reward you all and Maria Stella Maris pray for you all.
I dedicate this apostolate work into the care of Our Lady of Guadalupe, St. Joseph Pillar of Families, St. Maxmillian Kolbe and St. Therese of the Child Jesus and the Holy Face as the patron Saints of this apostolate to protect and govern this work to help the salvation of souls & the growth in contemplative prayer life to help rescue souls and restore Catholic family life. I also thank the intercession of St Francis and St Clare, St. Mary Magdalene, St. Philomena, St Martin De Porres, St. Anthony, St. Phillip Neri, St. Paul of the Cross, St. Gabriel de la Dolorsa, St. Basil, St. Peter Canisius for the constant help to endure in this work.
These are reflections and opinions of laity sharing their journey of faith. For doctrine or teaching authority we directed all to the Magisterium of the Roman Catholic Church in line with all of the Apostolic Tradition. This apostolate remains loyal to the Holy Father, the Sovereign Roman Pontiff, in union with all the Previous Constant Authority of the keys of St. Peter’s successors. All shared is to help draw souls under the greatest protection of The Holy Cross and consecration to our Lady the Blessed Virgin.

St. Augustine maintain: “He has not God for father who refuses to have the Church as mother.”
(DIVINI ILLIUS MAGISTRI ENCYCLICAL OF POPE PIUS XI ON CHRISTIAN EDUCATION)
Augustine of Hippo
AD 430 ( Commentary on Psalm 91:2 )
4. “To tell of Thy mercy early in the morning, and of Thy truth in the night season” (ver. 2). What is the meaning of this; that the mercy of God is to be told us in the morning, and in the night the truth of God? The morning is, when it is well with us; the night, the sadness of tribulation. What then did he say in brief? When thou art prosperous, rejoice in God, for it is His mercy. Now, perhaps thou wouldest say, If I rejoice in God, when I am prosperous, because it is His mercy; what am I to do when I am in sorrow, in tribulation? It is His mercy, when I am prosperous; is it then His cruelty, when I am in adversity? If I praise His mercy when it is well with me, am I then to exclaim against His cruelty when it is ill? No. But when it is well, praise His mercy: when ill, praise His truth: because He scourgeth sins, He is not unjust. …During the night Daniel confessed the truth of God: he said in his prayer, “We have sinned, and committed iniquity, and have done wickedly. O Lord, righteousness belongeth unto Thee: but unto us confusion of face.” He told of the truth of God during the night-season.
